Well, look what arrived just after I completed radiation and chemo treatments! I’ve been like a larva-would-be-moth in a cocoon these past months, just itching to get out and spread my wings, even just a bit. The timing of this little book could not be more fitting. I‘m still recovering but have turned a corner over the past weeks. I picked up working on my master’s degree again and started back on a regular writing routine. I’m so excited to be back in action on Substack - Thank you for continuing to support my work while I was away!
So what about the booklet? I haven’t had anything published in print since I was in college earning my undergrad, 20+ years ago. So, in January, I set a goal to publish something in print within the next year. Then, I got the cancer diagnosis. Fuck cancer. In February, just before starting treatments, I entered a 21 day poetry writing challenge. I needed to have something tangible to show for my writing efforts while going through treatments and pausing my more intensive writing projects. This little booklet is the result!
Here’s a glimpse:
I was so excited to share this part of my journey with my parents, especially the dedication - pretty sure my dad had a few tears steaming up his glasses…
So what’s next? I hope to wrap up and publish a memoir within the next year and complete my YA fiction novel for publishing within two years. I’m also still working on my master’s program. In the meantime, I may continue to enter more contests and challenges to stay engaged and motivated. I’ll keep you posted! For now, check out my first published Haiku collection, Haiku Human “Begin” and let me know if you have a favorite!
